Mohawk’s Polyester Power —
Value, Performance and
Sustainability

Polyester is a fast-growing category, and it keeps getting stronger. Mohawk has by far the best polyester products — and sales story — in the business. That means you have a tremendous advantage in this high-value, high style category.

Why is polyester so popular? It offers a lot of value, and there are many new styles and constructions being produced in this fiber. Also, there are new polyester-based fiber technologies available that represent the biggest fiber innovation of the last 20 years.

Also, Mohawk polyester products have tremendous environmental stories that are becoming more and more important with consumers as “green” issues keep coming to the forefront.

Mohawk has three different polyester fiber brands: Mohawk EverStrand™, Mohawk SmartStrand®, and Mohawk SmartStrand® made with DuPont™ Sorona® polymer.

Traditional polyester fiber has exceptional stain resistance to water-based substances. And Mohawk’s new technologies in this category

Mohawk Carpets

(SmartStrand® and SmartStrand® made with DuPont™ Sorona® polymer) have stain resistance built in to the fiber itself, so it doesn’t wear off like a surface treatment. This makes the SmartStrand® products resistant to a wide variety of common household stains.

The SmartStrand® fiber molecule has a “Z” shape which acts like a built-in spring to provide more resilience and durability. The new polymer chemistry also has built-in stain resistance that won’t wear off like surface treatments. SmartStrand® fiber has vibrant color, a remarkably soft hand, and lots of consumer value. It dries quickly, which is a big advantage for steam cleaning.
Mohawk SmartStrand® made with DuPontTM Sorona® polymer is EXCLUSIVE to Mohawk. It has permanent stain resistance, a soft hand, exceptional resilience, vibrant color — and a special environmental story.

Don’t skimp on padding. Quality carpeting needs quality padding (or “cushion”) for maximum durability, comfort and beauty retention. That’s because the padding helps absorb foot traffic pressure. Its primary purpose is to provide a firm support for the carpet; thus, a dense, resilient pad is usually recommended because it performs better than a thick, soft pad.

When selecting your color of carpet take the time to look at samples in your home, both in daylight and lamplight in the evening. The color you choose will look different under different lighting conditions.

Light color carpets will show more soil and require more maintenance the dark colors. Darker colors of carpeting are better in high traffic areas. Multi-colored and patterned carpets are very good at hiding soil.

The performance and quality of a carpet is related to the amount and quality of the fiber that goes into the fiber. The better the fiber and the denser it is packed, the better the carpet will perform. Thin, less dense carpet will lose its surface appearance faster. It is best to best the highest quality you can afford.
